Many newcomers easily overlook it, but it is actually the key to maintaining physical and mental health. This article will explain its definition and importance in detail to help you build safe and trusting relationships and make practice safer.
Alphabet circle aftercare refers to the process of psychological reconstruction after BDSM play, which is of great significance for Dom/sub relationships. It usually includes aftercare activities such as verbal affirmation, physical contact and emotional communication.
The core of alphabet circle aftercare is to restore the Sub sub's sense of security through physiological relaxation and psychological comfort, and avoid the possible depression and trauma caused by the drop in dopamine after the play. In the SSC principle (safe, rational, and consensual), aftercare is an important link to ensure the safety and sustainability of activities.
Common forms of aftercare include: providing warm drinks and soft blankets to help the Sub sub restore body temperature; hugs and verbal affirmation to relieve anxiety; quiet companionship to allow the Sub sub to slowly return to reality. Good aftercare can deepen the trust between Dom and Sub, and is also an important manifestation of responsible Dom.
For small circles, aftercare may emphasize the comfort of “family-style” roles, such as the emotional interaction between parents and children. However, no matter which circle, respecting the other party's needs, setting reasonable boundaries, and following SSC principles are the prerequisites for healthy aftercare.
